Stories : The Story of Malvus Strom
Introduction
The spring was a welcome change in the city. The sun’s rays attacking the land and gaining a foothold trying to help spring banish the winter. The long cold months had worn on everyone’s nerves and it was time for Mother Nature to change it up a bit. Rain fell almost every day in the spring, cleansing the dirty snow and forcing it back to where it had come. Spring rain was the type of rain that soaked you and chilled you to the bone. People would rather have that then the long cold winter that had just past.
Malvus Strom sat in his chair at the Free Peoples Café in Fortunes Shore speaking to the small crowd about how it used to be and how life has changed so much. He told them of the world before the rifts. It was a time before the wars and the struggle of power. He hung his head as he prayed for times of peace he hope would soon come. The crowd started to move on and people went about getting food and drink as Malvus sat eyes closed and started to daydream.
Malvus used to be the type of cleric that never left his parish. The powers in Meridian had much respect for his ways and his dedication to the people in the city. He made sure nobody went without and if the citizens could not pay for a service he did it for free. That was many years ago, the rifts have come and changed the way he viewed the world. Cuts in the fabric of the world where the planes intersect would open up and evil and despicable things would poor out causing havoc upon all that got in its way. The corruption changed Malvus life, the simple life of dedication he had planned on growing old doing. It was now his task to venture out into the world to help stop the downfall of his beloved Telara. The Guardians had taken his life, but somehow he had returned, he was back among the living and his calling was to stop the future by changing the past. How he was to do this, he was not sure. He planned on spending much time seeking companions to help answer that very question. Would he find more what the locals now called “Ascended” like him with the same goal and will they help champion the cause? Time will tell as the adventures of Malvus Strom begin.
Chapter 1
Malvus……Malvus…..can you hear me….a voice echoed in his head. His eyes slowly opened and everything was a haze. He struggle to focus and with much effort shook the mind webs away. The nauseating feeling was starting to subside.
He found himself in a strange chamber. The elevated circular platform he stood emitted wisp of steam making him feel as if he was back at the lake on a cool autumn morning near the lake. After a few minutes he realized it was not the platform that was steaming it was him.
He was unsteady on his feet, and the air was musty. Strange machines of all types occupied the room. The sounds of the gears turning and the clang of hammers echoed throughout his location. Where he now stood was unfamiliar and cold. Cables that transferred energy from one location to another helped light the area as Malvus stood and adjusted to his environment.
“What is this place, how did I get to be here?” Malvus voice echoed in the chamber. He looked at his hands and the few clothes on his body. What had happened was he a construct? Was he in a dream?
“Come forward friend; do not be afraid, you are whole again.”
Malvus stared at the small women in front of him. He made his way down the short flight of steps and stood in front of her. He was not afraid, he was filled with questions. Behind the women lies a man in some kind of a metal coffin. She noticed him looking.
The strange women turned and flipped a few more switches next to the metal coffin and the red and white lights started to encompass the body. Malvus attention was fully on the subject now being engulfed in the light.
“You will be known as Malvus, you are one of the ascended.” the women stepped in front of the iron coffin blocking his view. Malvus was now forced to pay attention to her.
“I am one of the what?” Malvus replied with a confused look.
“Welcome back to the world of the living. I know you are a little disoriented but time is short. Regulo’s forces have discovered our location. You must hurry and claim a soul.”
“Who are you women, who are you please tell me this at least, please”
“I am a resurrection forge technician, my name is Nina if you must know, but it does not matter who I am, you must go and begin what is your destiny, locate one of the soul informers, they will help to guide you.
She turned around and began to work the machines. Malvus stood and watched not moving. Cheering from nearby, broke him out of his dream like state. He was being pulled in a direction, towards some stairs. He stopped at the foot of the stairs next to a small podium shaped device. His hand brushed the cold metal. A small man flashed into being on the flat surface of the podium. Malvus jumped back.
“Welcome I am a soul informer, information on your soul can be obtained by visiting the devices on the way to the first of your Eldritch Technicians….please continue on and make your first choice.” The little man disappeared.
Malvus looked up the stairs and could see another device much like the one he had just encountered. He stood and considered his choices.
“What is going on here, what has happened to me, why has this happened….who am I…?”
